The Haunting of a Low Job Fit Employee Recently, I saw first hand another example of a low job fit employee team member in a role they were not "wired" to do nor enjoy. This team member is a ten-year veteran. His job is to engage the company's most sensitive, complicated Customers. Many of these Customers are very demanding. His behavioral style is opposite of that of most of their demanding Customers. He is very passive, while most of his customers are direct. Unfortunately, he is not happy at work due to his behavioral misfit with customers, and it is impacting the rest of his life and customer satisfaction. Read on. According to the Department of Labor (DOL), it appears that interns who work in for-profit companies in the private sector are typically considered non-exempt. However, whether or not student interns are covered under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FSLA) depends on the circumstances of the activities. If the work activity that the intern is to perform is an extension of the student's academic programs, then the student might not be considered an employee. To help determine if a student's work is an extension of their academic program, these six criteria must be met: Read on. $1 Billion Workers' Comp Refund For Ohio Employers On May 2, 2013 Gov. John Kasich proposed a workers' compensation rebate for Ohio's 210,000 public and private employers. The rebate could amount to as much as $1 billion. The announcement was made at a press conference at Homage, a small business in the Short North neighborhood of Columbus. During the conference, Kasich also proposed tripling investments in worker-safety grants and lowering workers' compensation rates for employers by modernizing the way the Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) calculates employers' rates. Read more OSHA Enforcement Trends At an American Bar Association meeting in March 2013, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health Richard Fairfax discussed recent statistics that continue to reflect OSHA's enforcement efforts. Fairfax indicated that since the inception of OSHA's Severe Enhancement Violator Program (SVEP) through January 31, 2013, OSHA has had 309 SVEP cases, averaging about 100 SVEP cases a year. Twenty-three percent of these SVEP cases involved a fatality and more than half were in the construction industry. Read more |
